[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign, [00:00:07] Speaker B: The natural state. This is Public Facing the podcast with Joe Holman. [00:00:21] Speaker A: Hello, everybody. Thanks for joining us today. Now, with a lot going on both locally and globally, gas prices are up, flights are up. Heck, even your bag fees are up. And then comes the groceries. Yeah, they're up, too, somehow way up. And if you've looked at your bank account lately and said, wait, didn't I just get paid? Yeah, same. We're living in a moment where global conflict isn't just headlines. It's hitting wallets, plans, stress levels, even spring break. So today, we're connecting the dots. War, economy, everyday life. What's it costing you? What are you doing about it? And how are we still trying to live, travel, and breathe through it all? Plus, we pivot because music, Right? Yeah, sometimes it literally saves lives. When it comes to war and the real world and its ripple effect, let's not overcomplicate this, because when conflict escalates globally, markets react, energy reacts, supply chains tighten, and suddenly fuel costs spike, shipping slows, insurance rises, businesses pass. Costs to you. That's the pipeline. You don't need a degree in economics. You can feel it at the pump. Even the gas prices right now, they feel like they're being set by some sort of roulette wheel and vibes. But let me ask you directly, how has all of this affected you so far? As in, where are you feeling it most? Is it your gas, your groceries, maybe travel? Because for most people, it's not abstract. It's weekly budgeting decisions. Now, the price hike tends to have sort of a. A domino effect. So let's stack it up. Airfare, it's up. Checked bags, that's up. And somehow heavier emotionally. How about food? Smaller portions, bigger prices, Supply chain. Yeah, that's still catching up. It's still quite fragile. And here's the kicker. It's not just one thing. It's everything at once. You ever grab two grocery bags, walk out and think, huh, that was 80 bucks? For what? Vibes and snacks. So what steps are you taking right now to counter the impact? Are you making changes like driving less? Maybe you're cooking more instead of eating out. Maybe you're canceling subscriptions that you forgot you had, or you're just accepting it and hoping for the best. This segment is brought to you by GasBuddy, the app that helps you find the cheapest gas near you in real time. Because guessing gas prices in 2026, that's a losing game. Download gas buddy today and stop or overpaying by accident. Gasbuddy.com. You remember it's that time again for spring break. You've gone into a A mode where maybe you've booked it, you've packed it and you go, no problem. And that's good. If you can't now if it's different and instead of keeping your plans, you've had to reimagine your plans. Well, how is it? Should we still go? Can we afford to go? Can we drive instead? If we drive, can we still afford to go? It's kind of that cycle there now. Some are keeping plans, but they're just spending less. Some are downsizing their destinations instead of going to for spring break to Myrtle beach. Maybe they're just staying where they are and going to a beach. Of course it is a little early in the year for that, but depends on where you are geographically. And some are turning trips into staycations. Honestly, there's no wrong answer, just smarter ones. Did you keep your spring break plans or are you finding that you have to rework them? And if I may, what's your all time favorite spring break destination? Now for myself, it's anywhere with sun and some decent food and probably some a wi fi that's strong enough to still pretend that I'm being productive. Yeah, I think that's going. I mean, growing up in the state of Minnesota, I had access to all sorts of lakes and parks and you know, just various activities that could be taken part of. So I had a lot of options back then. But I'm finding as an adult I have probably the same or similar options, but I had less availability, whether it be of time or of, you know, financial input that I can put towards it. So yeah, but those, those were the days for sure. Now today's episode is also brought to you by Perk plus Travel. They help you avoid those painful airline bag fees. Yes, those bag fees. Smarter packing guides, better luggage, fewer surprises at the counter. Perk plus Travel because your suitcase shouldn't cost as much as your seat. How about When Music Saves Lives? Now let's pivot for a second because not everything heavy has to stay heavy. Now there's a song by a Ben called Simple Plan. And it's called this song Saved My Life. And it got me to thinking a lot because of what the lyrics declare and, and you know, for a lot of people that's not a metaphor, that's real. Music hits differently when you need it. Most songs that have helped people through dark moments include and are not limited to this song Saved My Life by Simple Plan 1, 800-273-8255 by Logic Fix you by Coldplay Shake it out by Florence and the Machine, man in the Mirror by Michael Jackson now these songs remind people that you're not alone. Things can shift, you matter, and sometimes that's enough to change a moment or a life. So other songs that are suitable for changing lives are that that stay on a tempo that is conducive for cpr, the cardiopulmonary resuscitation based on consistent tempo. It's the most famous CPR song is indeed Staying Alive by the Bee Gees, which has a tempo of 103 to 104 beats per minute, perfectly matching the recommended compression rate of 100 to 120 beats per minute. Any song within this 100 to 120 beats per minute range is effective for maintaining the correct rhythm during chest compressions, as the beat acts as a mental metronome to prevent compressions from being too fast or too slow. Some popular alternative CPR songs While Staying Alive is indeed the classic choice, many modern and classic tracks are equally suitable for guiding hands only. CPR, such as dynamite by BTS at 114 beats per minute or Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars at 115 beats per minute Flowers by Miley Cyrus 118 beats per minute Circles by Post Malone at 120 beats per minute Levitating by Dua Lipa 103 beats per minute Dancing Queen by ABBA 103 beats per minute Sorry by Justin Bieber at a hundred beats per minute Bad Bunnies Titi May present Pregunto 107 beats per minute Cold Heart by Pinot Remix by Elton John and dua Lipa at 116 beats per minute I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor as well. And of these of these examples, perhaps you have another song in mind? Share it with me. Send me off an email at hello at Public Facing Pod Stream and I may include it in a follow up segment. Now. Let's talk about the thing that nobody wants to talk about. It's tax day and it's coming fast and if you've been putting it off, then this is your sign. It's important that you file as early as possible to avoid penalties. So hurry and file now. If you have not already done so double check your deductions. Consider professional help if needed, but act without delay. Because nothing brings people together like collectively realizing, oh, that's due soon. It's here. You have no time to delay. Visit turbotax.com An Intuit company well, looking ahead, there are a great number of upcoming movie releases. We have several that are releasing on April 17th. First up is the movie Normal, starring Bob Odenkirk, Ryan Allen and Billy McClellan, and this Centers on a temporary small town sheriff in Minnesota who uncovers dark mysteries after a local bank robbery. And also next is American Solitaire, starring Joshua Close, Gilbert Oher and Joanne Kelly. An American soldier struggling to make sense of his civilian life is confronted with the complexities of gun violence in his hometown. And finally, Busboys, starring Theo Vaughan, David Spade, Jimmy Gonzalez. A pair of idiot friends believe that if they become waiters, all of their problems will be solved. They aren't entirely wrong, but they aren't entirely right. You can find the trailers for these on the Internet Movie Database. You can look those up for upcoming [email protected] and of course, the Streaming Wars. What with streaming exclusives, they're competing hard. More platforms, more subscriptions, more. Wait, what am I paying for again? Browse your device or your smart TV streaming store and see what's new. Make sure to look for special offers too. The competition is fierce and your wallet feels it. Now, as a bonus, we'll talk about the HBO original the Pit, currently coming up on the tail end of its Season two under much speculation. So yeah, let's talk about the Pit, because season two is building towards something big. The speculation is that the most prominent speculation regarding The Pit Season 2 finale centers on Dr. Robbie potentially dying or suffering a fatal motorcycle crash during his announced three month sabbatical, driven by a Chekhov's gun narrative arc involving his suicidal tendencies and reckless behavior. Evidence from episodes 12 and 13, including Dana Evans calling him tempting death and Robbie cryptically asking what if I don't come back? Well, that has led many fans and critics to believe the show is setting up a tragic conclusion for the character. However, counter arguments suggest that no wow is confirmed to return for season three, implying Robbie might survive a near death experience or or a severe injury rather than a permanent death. Alternative theories propose that the finale will resolve Robbie's crisis through an intervention or a hospital based incident such as his friend Duke requiring emergency care due to a bad CT scan, which forces Robbie to stay at the hospital and confront his issues. Now key points of contention and evidence include the motorcycle motif as Robbie's frequent mention of a motorbaticle and riding without a helmet serves as a recurring symbol of his self destructive path. Now there are some dialogue hints as well, like scenes where Ravi discusses patients. Low survival odds are interpreted as a foreshadowing his own potential fate. And when it comes to cast status, while the show is building tension potentially for Robbie's death, the star's confirmed return for season three suggests a save ending, possibly involving rehab or a major recovery arc. Now other character arcs have speculation also existing regarding the departure of Dr. Mohan and the resolution of Dr. Al Hashimi's neurological concerns, which may intertwine with the main finale events. The season finale will air on Thursday, April 16, leaving the ultimate fate of Dr. Robbie as the central mystery for viewers to interpret. And if they play it right, this finale will set up a very different season three. So what are your predictions? Weigh in with me via email at hello at Public Facing Pod Stream. It would be my pleasure to do a follow up and include that on the then upcoming episode. So here we are now at our what I like to call is the final word. Now here's the reality. You can't control global events, you can't control markets. But some things that you can control are how you adapt to situations, how you plan around situations and for situations, How you respond when you're placed into a situation. Especially the ones that we're all going through now when it comes to the economy and for goods and services. And maybe most importantly is how you keep living in the middle of it all. What are some of the coping mechanisms that you use going through some of these, some of our situations that, that you know, we're all enduring at this time. I find for myself that doing some writing or talking or getting into some type of an activity helps to get to get through. Even if it's just for the the day or heck, even if it's just for the hour. These are things that can be beneficial. I like also to delve into music. I'm not a big TV watcher, but I do watch a little TV because it's something that I have in common watching a show with my family. So that's really, those are kind of the, the ways that I cope with that. You know, exercise isn't a bad deal if you're, if you're able, maybe go for a walk. Doesn't have to be a mile. You know, start out with maybe you walk to the, to the mailbox, then you walk to the corner. And then you, you know, it can just, it can build over time. Now this, these are some of the tactics that I use in my life. But tell me, what are some of the tactics that you use in your life?
